You better BELIZE it!

My husband and I headed to Belize for our Honeymoon. We opted to stay somewhere different and the treehouse in the rainforest was as wild as it comes. Very close to the Guatemalan border we spent every evening next to the rainforest. We didn’t anticipate the holler monkeys invading our sleep with their sounds but quickly realized why they were the background noise for all the jurassic park movies.

The instructions stated that the Treehouse was completely off grid running on solar power and it required a vehicle with 4 wheel drive. We rented the right SUV and found our way to the place with minimal struggle.

This view was breathtaking and felt like an Enchanted Forest.

We decided to visit the Martz farm which was just up the road from our treehouse. There we met Joe and his wife Miriam and took off up the mountain on horseback. Once we reached the top we were able to see wildlife and the river that flowed below us. Joe shared stories of how the area was changing and how long he and his family had lived there. We even saw a pineapple growing in the wild. They look a little different from the ones in the grocery store.

After our ride we had some drinks with Joe before heading back to get some dinner. The owner of our treehouse prepared us a traditional Belizean meal of rice and beans and chicken. We truly enjoyed spending part of our honeymoon at Casa Santa Maria. What a beautiful home and wonderful experience.

We stayed in Belize City the last 2 nights of our trip. Lots of shops and wandering was really fun and allowed us to pick up some trinkets to head home.  Highly recommend going to Belize. Easily my favorite adventure with Kirkwood.
